MISTAKES IN ADMISSION TO UNIVERSITY IN BULGARIA

Many prospective students are confident and believe that they are capable of handling all aspects of their university admission. They also believe that they know everything about their admission because “everything is on the internet”.

This way of thinking often results in an unpleasant surprise for prospective students and their families. These are just a few of the major mistakes made when applying.

Our advisers list some of these, which we will present to you in the following series, in order to avoid the failure and frustration of many students who are heading to apply to a university abroad.

ERRORS IN ADMISSION TO UNIVERSITY IN BULGARIA:

1.Insufficient control of the control of the conditions of universities and omission of much information.

Sometimes there are criteria, requirements or exams that are not even detailed on university websites and prospective students never learn about them… This leads to missing important deadlines which can often cost them admission to their chosen university. In Bulgaria, each university sets its own requirements, deadlines for application documents, dates of entrance exams and registration deadlines.

These are different deadlines, documents, certificates, etc., which you cannot fully follow and meet, while you are still preparing for the Panhellenic examinations and at the same time preparing for the entrance examinations to a foreign university.

It is normal to make mistakes, so it is important to trust a specialist to take care of everything related to the application process itself.

2. The syndrome of the “neighbour’s child”, “mum’s friend”, “cousin

Quite often, prospective students and parents come to our office or call us asking to enrol at a particular university because someone they know’s child is already studying there. They want the child to study in a particular city because they have been there on a trip and they really like it. But it is a mistake to trust the choice of a university to the fact that someone you know is studying in a particular place.

Another absurd argument when choosing a university is the very location and city in which the university is located. Often students come to us who have visited a city in Bulgaria for a weekend, walked around the city centre and on their return decide that this is the best place for their education.

Unfortunately, very few people think about how good a university is and exactly what they have to do until graduation – how many credits they can owe, how they go from one year to the next, what their internship is like, etc.

When we focus our thoughts only on the city and what the city can offer for studies, it is like choosing a tourist destination. When we choose where to study we are choosing the university and what it can offer us as students and not the city.

It is therefore of paramount importance to check whether the university and place you are being offered offers the level of study and lifestyle you are looking for.

3. Free training;!

Higher education in Bulgaria is not completely free even for Bulgarian students. Tuition fees for English-language courses are significantly higher than those taught in Bulgarian.

Please note that the highest tuition fees are for studies in health sciences e.g. medicine, dentistry, etc. Significantly more affordable are English-language studies e.g. Psychology, Political Science, Network Technologies, etc.

4. Search for English-onlydegree programmes in English-speaking countries

Another common omission is that English-language studies are widely sought in universities in countries where English is the main spoken language.

This is wrong, because there are opportunities for English language studies and programmes in many other countries and Bulgaria is one of them.

To sum up: remember that you are not going to live or go on holiday, but to go for a good and prestigious education. That is, the main argument should be that the prospective student will receive the best possible education in his or her chosen field of study.
