BELIEVE IN YOUR DREAMS

20 years ago, in a scrapbook in primary school, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. My 8-year-old self answered simply: “1. 1. 2. A doctor.” At least I had my priorities straight.

10 years ago, when I finished high school, and after the psychological burden of “failing” the Panhellenic exams, I was asked again. The answer had not changed. Perhaps only the order.

That’s how the greatest adventure of my life began. The chapter “Student years” and “Life in Bulgaria”. Completely unaware of what the future held for me, with complete enthusiasm, with a life goal.

In a city more beautiful than I had ever dreamed of. At a university beyond my expectations. With new friends, with whom I now have lifelong relationships. Was I perfect? No. Could I have done better? Absolutely. Do I have any regrets? Not for half a second. If I went back in time, I wouldn’t change a single decision I made. They brought me here. They made me who I am.

My time in Bulgaria is the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I will always be grateful. To my parents, who invested in my dream. To Harry and Milena, and to the whole SB Academy, who were the hug I needed when I felt weak. To the people who taught me the science I love and serve. To my friends who supported me. To the city that raised me.

Today, I feel that I have made that little girl proud. That we have a medical degree at least. Becoming a good person is something I keep working on. For myself, for my family, for my friends, and most of all for my patients.

To SB Academy, I have only one big thank you. You have a piece of my heart and you know it.

To you who share the same dream, or to you, the worried parent, I say the following. No decision is simple. There is no easy way. You need good allies. Here you will have them. Above all, it’s the driving force that matters. The dream. Take the first step. You’re in good hands.
