DENTISTRY AT THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF PLOVDIV

Plovdiv Medical University is a state institution of higher education. It is one of the best medical universities in Bulgaria.

Dental education takes place in a newly built building constructed specifically for the needs of the school.

By 2020, 446 foreign students will be studying at the Department of Dentistry.

The annual tuition fees are 9000 E for English-speaking studies and 8000 E for Bulgarian-speaking studies.

The main priority of the faculty is to increase the quality of students’ studies. The equipment in the clinical halls is constantly renewed, which improves the conditions for study. The faculty has lecture halls,laboratories, preclinical and clinical rooms.

In order to improve the education of student trainees , who do internships in the semesters a new format of conducting internship protection of a clinical case before the introduction of a committee of ordinary teachers is introduced.

The Department of Dentistry in Plovdiv annually, as part of the Erasmus+ programme, sends their students for training abroad and welcomes students from abroad for their training in Plovdiv.

Bilateral agreements have been concluded with scientific institutions in Latvia, Italy, Spain, Finland, Greece, Spain, Finland and Turkey. The number of ordinary professors in the Department of Dentistry is 29, including 9 professors and 20 associate professors.

Since 2012 the Department of Dentistry in Plovdiv started cooperation with Global Training Academy which is a certified training center for laser dentistry.

The Department of Dentistry in Plovdiv has a full range of devices for the fabrication of prosthetic constructions using CAD/CAM technology.

For the continuous improvement of the teachers in the dental department, training courses are conducted by leading 3 SHAPE teachers.

DENTISTRY AT SOFIA MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

The Department of Dentistry at Sofia Medical University has all the necessary facilities for a very good education in the specialty of dentistry.

The annual tuition fees for international prospective students are E9000 for education in English-speaking departments and E8000 for Bulgarian-speaking departments.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS WISHING TO APPLY

To study dentistry in Bulgaria, international students must pass an entrance test in chemistry and biology.

If they want to study in English, the chemistry and biology test is in English.

At the Medical University – Sofia, in addition to the chemistry and biology entrance test, there is also an English language proficiency test.

In addition to passing the entrance test, prospective students will be required to present to the university their secondary school leaving certificate from Greece, certified with Apostille, which should include a grade in chemistry and biology not lower than 62% of the maximum secondary school grade in Greece.

At the Medical University – Sofia, together with the secondary school diploma, they also present a certificate for recognized comprehensive secondary education issued by the Regional Department of Education of the Ministry of Education and Science with grades equivalent to the grades in Bulgaria.

If there is no chemistry or biology grade on your diploma, contact us for instructions on documents that can replace the missing grade.

You are not allowed to apply to the Medical University – Sofia if your diploma for comprehensive secondary education does not include an assessment in chemistry and biology.

It is particularly important to know that a prerequisite for enrolling at a university in Bulgaria is participation in the national examinations. This document is a certificate which must state that the student has the right to continue their studies at the universities in Greece; this document must be certified by Apostille.

Admission to medical universities in Bulgaria is much easier for foreign students than to be admitted to a similar university in Greece and study dentistry.

The number of Greek students in Bulgaria is extremely high due to the relatively low tuition fees, the ease of admission, the high level of education, the proximity between the two countries and the good lifestyle of the students.

LIVING EXPENSES IN BULGARIA

In addition to the semester fees of 4000 E, international students in Bulgaria pay monthly rent for fully furnished apartments. Together with our partners you can view various apartment offers according to your own criteria.

The cost of living is higher in the capital Sofia. Plovdiv is a much more economical city. Distances there are shorter and transport costs are reduced accordingly.

Significantly lower than Greece is the cost of electricity, water, public spaces, internet. You should keep in mind that the rental price of the apartments does not include these costs.

Based on our experience so far, we can safely say that the total monthly expenses of a foreign student in Bulgaria are about 1000 E – 1200 E per month for the city of Sofia and about 800 E – 900 E for the city of Plovdiv.
