How to study medicine, pharmacy, dentistry in Bulgaria?

These are questions that every student with an interest in health sciences asks.
However, as you can see, there is not much information online on how to properly apply to the university of your choice.
We decided to write this article for this very purpose. We want to save parents and students time in their research. What candidates should do and how to start their studies successfully in Bulgaria.

Please note that this article is intended for people who want to study in Bulgaria.

How is the admission test?

Here the answer is short. Entrance exams in most universities consist of 2 parts – a chemistry exam and a biology exam. Of course, with the same degree of difficulty.

What should you do if you want to study medicine, pharmacy, dentistry in Bulgaria in the English-speaking departments?

In addition to the 2 exams in biology and chemistry, you will have to take an English language proficiency test.

There is a very important condition here – in order for a student candidate to participate in the final rankings, he or she must have passed both exams, i.e. have a grade above “3” in both subjects.

Is the preparation at school enough to make a successful application?

The preparation you do at school is only enough to give you a general knowledge of chemistry and biology.
If you decide to apply for one of the three specialisations, you should bear in mind that each university has its own examination format and its own syllabus to prepare for.

It is very important for you to know that the syllabus for the candidate-student examinations is based on the syllabus taught in Bulgarian high schools. The entrance exams in biology include many anatomy questions, which are not studied in Greek lyceums.

When is the right time to start your preparation?

There is no exact answer to this question.
As a company that has been enrolling Greek and Cypriot students in Bulgarian universities for over 15 years, we recommend that you start preparing 2 months before applying. Of course, it all depends on the student and the time he/she is willing to invest in preparation. In some cases 1 week of preparation is sufficient.

What do you need to be well prepared?

For a comprehensive preparation you need the necessary biology and chemistry textbooks, which are used in English high schools in Bulgaria. They are described in the bibliography of the university of your choice.

Of course, if you decide to use our services to prepare your documents for enrolment at the university of your choice, we will send you the necessary books together with sample entrance tests for the respective university.

In addition, you can benefit from our courses for the preparation of Greek and Cypriot students.

Our lessons are:

Intensive (duration 1 week, for 36 hours): 6 hours per day – 2 hours of chemistry, 2 hours of biology and 2 hours of English. This means you need about 12 hours of individual study. The course pack includes homework and preparation for the next lesson.

2 week course, with 36 teaching hours, but giving you more opportunities for additional personal preparation.

What if you don’t get accepted to university?

So far we have not had any “failures”, but again, if you happen to be rejected, we recommend that you do not give up.
If you fail the entrance exams, this means that you have a very large “knowledge gap”.

In both the required courses of biology and chemistry or your level of English is not sufficient to study in English-speaking departments.

Bulgarian universities offer a preparatory year in which you will take courses in English, chemistry and biology with university professors.

This way you will gain the knowledge you need not only to pass the entrance exams.

But you will also have an excellent basis for your future studies at university.

One year is too short. However, if you have decided to study something in this field, it is very clear to you that you will study for at least 6 years, so you can use this preparatory year to enrich your knowledge. In any case, there is no chance that your year will be “wasted”, but that is entirely up to you.
